Foodie destinations in Stockport have been named by Condé Nast Traveler and recommend Manchester as one of the UK’s top weekend getaway destinations.

Ranked sixth out of 13 cities in the UK on the travel magazine’s list of city break destinations, Manchester was the top travel destination in Northern England, ahead of Newcastle (seventh) and Liverpool (tenth), the only other cities in the region around the To create list. Manchester in the top 5 beat Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, Bristol and Cambridge. While the city had lost a spot since last year’s ranking, Condé Nast Traveler praised Manchester’s burgeoning food and drink scene.

While restaurants in the city center and Northern Quarter were not mentioned as a surprise, a number of Stockport hospitality highlights were also cited as examples of how the larger metropolitan area has contributed to the city’s foodie credentials.

Both the Produce Hall (pictured) in Stockport’s Victorian Market Place and the critically acclaimed gourmet restaurant Where The Light Gets In were recommended by the publication. The plant-based restaurant The Allotment, originally established in Stockport and now in Manchester city center, has also been mentioned.

The recognition of Stockport’s growing food scene by a major travel publication will be welcome news for the city’s hospitality industry, which, like other cities across the country, has been hit hard by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Since the publication of its top city break ranking, Condé Nast Traveler has also recommended Stockport for tourism. Her article highlights more of the city’s great restaurants and bars, but also praises its cultural and historical sites.
