A hairdresser is the 100,000th Stockport resident to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
Michelle Conway of Bredbury in Stockport, Greater Manchester, received her sting at Bredbury Medical Center earlier this month and became the county’s 100,000th person to receive her first vaccine.
The 42-year-old hairdresser, who qualified for the vaccine because of her health, said she has never been so excited about getting an injection.
“I can’t believe I’m the 100,000 people vaccinated at Stockport,” she said.
“If the vaccine brings us closer to normal life, I would have gone anywhere to have it anytime.
“There was such a Dunkirk spirit where everyone worked together and I think that’s what drives people.
“NHS staff give up their weekends for the vaccination clinics – they do it because it makes a difference.
“The only way to get rid of this disease is to vaccinate people. So when it’s your turn to do it. We’ll get there, we’ll sort it out. “
Dr. Cath Briggs, chair of the Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group, said if everyone who offers the vaccine took it, we would be one step closer to seeing friends and family again.
Dr. Meenal Gor, a general practitioner at Chadsfield Medical Practice in Stockport, has been heavily involved with the vaccination clinics and stresses the importance of getting everyone vaccinated.
She said, “If someone has concerns about preventing them from reporting for vaccination, please call your GP to discuss your specific concerns.
“We encourage everyone to get vaccinated to reduce the risk of this virus. When you get your first shot, make sure your second shot is fully protected.”
Councilor Jude Wells, Cabinet Member for Adult Care and Health, said, “Congratulations to Michelle on becoming the 100,000 vaccinated patients and making history at Stockport.
“Michelle is now joining in with every single person who received the vaccination to make Stockport a safer, healthier place for its residents. Thank you.”
All people in priority groups 1 to 4 should now have been offered a Covid vaccination.
If you haven’t been given an appointment, or haven’t been able to take one due to illness, self-isolation, or other reasons, it’s not too late.
The easiest way to arrange a vaccination is through the national booking service, which you can access at nhs.uk/covid-vaccination.
Andrew Loughney, Medical Director of the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, said, “The Trust is really proud to have been part of this teamwork and to have vaccinated so many people in Stockport in such a short amount of time.
“One hundred thousand locals have been vaccinated and the protection for the entire community is immense.
“There is more to be done, but together we can continue to achieve great things.”
