A company that owns several pubs across Stockport raised over £ 7,000 for charity through a 10-mile walk.

Almond Family Pubs held their seventh annual One Small Step Pub Walk, which saw 200 hikers walk the 10 miles between all of the company’s pubs in the area.

The walk, which raised £ 7,600 for FPWR UK, a charity researching Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), started at Fletchers Arms in Denton and went through picturesque landscapes before heading to Spread Eagle in Romiley, Puss in Boots in Heaviley and Jolly Sailor, Davenport.

Two hundred hikers had turned up for this year’s event on August 21, but were caught just before the start when the sky opened.

FPWR UK is a charity that is very close to the heart of the Almond family as Vicki Williams (nee Almond) daughter Bella was diagnosed with PWS when she was two weeks old.

Prader-Willi syndrome is a very rare syndrome that affects only 1 in 20,000 children born in the UK.

It causes constant cravings for food, driven by a constant feeling of hunger, and can easily lead to dangerous weight gain and restricted growth, resulting in short stature, reduced muscle tone, learning difficulties and behavior problems.

This year the hikers were accompanied by three other families affected by PWS.

Vicki Williams said, “We are over the moon to host the event this year. Covid is wreaking havoc on all charities and FPWR UK is no different.

“Holding this event raised important resources, but also brought the much-needed normalcy into people’s lives, especially in our PWS community, with whom we were so happy to share the day.”
