Stockport Council Funds COVID Monitoring App To Reduce Hospital Admissions To Prolific North

The Stockport Council has funded an app to reduce hospital admissions for COVID and monitor patients in nursing homes.

The app, provided by Mastercall and developed by the Norwegian company Dignio, enables the community to monitor patients after they are discharged from the hospital and back to their homes or nursing homes.

The platform collects data on a patient through a virtual monitoring hub by asking them questions if they have COVID symptoms before monitoring their temperature and oxygen levels, and arranging a video call or visit from a nurse if necessary. This allows users to be monitored remotely and signs of deterioration to be detected early on.

Data is graded by traffic light to cater to each patient’s unique needs, and the Technology Enhanced Living (TEL) service has been used to support early discharge of patients from the hospital.

Alderman David Sedgwick, Stockport Council Cabinet Member for Citizen Focus, said, “The use of innovative digital technologies has been fundamental to our approach to care during the pandemic here at Stockport. By using these technologies, we were able to provide the residents with the right help much faster and more safely when they needed it most. “

“We hope to continue using TEL to monitor and assess other critically ill patients so that they can stay at home with the confidence that they will be hospitalized as soon as needed and as quickly. Action can be activated when needed.”

Michaela Buck, CEO of Mastercall, added, “We are excited about the impact of the TEL service in helping patients live well at home. The health results and benefits are overwhelming, but most importantly, patients feel empowered: the service reduces anxiety and stress, especially during the challenges of COVID-19. “

“The Dignio platform enables our great team of healthcare professionals to act immediately when a problem is detected and enables immediate clinical response.”

“The launch of our innovative digital clinical service has sparked national interest in the NHS and received recognition for clinical digital innovations from various health award winners – HSJ, Medilink, INetwork, NHS in the North; This underscores our commitment to digital inclusion and innovation to support our patients in Stockport. “

“We are grateful to the Stockport Council for their commitment to investing in digital technologies to revolutionize health outcomes and benefits for our citizens. This is an exciting journey of discovery and benefits. “
