Ben Fox and Harvey Lintott came into the Cobblers side to face Stockport County as boss Jon Brady made two changes to the team that started the previous league fixture. Tyler Magloire missed out through injury joining Shaun McWilliams, Akin Odimayo and Aaron McGowan on the sidelines. Danny Hylton was however back on the bench with Kieron Bowie also among the substitutes having returned from international duty with Scotland U21s.

Former Cobblers defender Fraser Horsfall started for Stockport having made the move to Edgeley Park in the summer.

The game kicked off at the earlier time of 2pm to avoid a direct clash with Northampton Saints versus Leicester Tigers.

Stockport started well and had the lead on 12 minutes, Fraser Horsfall in the right place at the right time to finish after Kyle Wootton’s initial header from a free kick came back off the cross bar.

With the game approaching the half hour mark the Cobblers enjoyed a period of pressure but Stockport survived a goalmouth scramble to keep their noses in front. The remainder of the first half passed without real incident although Jon Guthrie and Antoni Sarcevic were both booked following a coming together.

Sarcevic did have half a chance to double County’s lead in first half stoppage time but having got into a good position his shot was straight at Lee Burge.

Danny Hylton and Kieron Bowie came on in a double change at half-time, Louis Appere and Ben Fox making way.

The Cobblers were back on level terms early in the second half, Sam Hoskins continuing his hot streak with his 11th goal of the season a fine strike from just outside the area.

Ben Hinchliffe made a good save to turn behind a looping header from Sam Sherring but from the resultant corner the Cobblers, who had been much improved in the second half, got themselves in front, Harvey Lintott heading home Mitch Pinnock’s delivery for his first professional goal.

Town were in the ascendancy and half-time substitute Hylton went agonizingly close to his first Cobblers goal but his header came back off the post while Bowie fired over following another Pinnock delivery into the box.

Sherring made a vital block to deny Stockport substitute Myles Hippolyte a clear strike on goal and a vital tackle from Pinnock kept the Cobblers in front before Max Dyche came on to help see the game out.

Six minutes of stoppage time were added in which Akil Wright was sent off following a second bookable offense and the Cobblers made sure of a fourth consecutive league victory.
