An early morning train connection from Buxton to Manchester has been expanded to include additional stops so that students can get to college on time.

Covid-19 temporarily suspended service at 7:59 a.m., but it provided an important transportation link for High Peak students as it stopped at both Woodsmoor and Davenport stations.

The district MP and councilors raised concerns about the loss of service to commuter and college students at rail operator Northern.

Starting Monday (January 10), additional stops have been added to the service at 7:36 a.m. at Woodsmoor and Davenport train stations to ensure students traveling from Buxton, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Whaley Bridge, Furness Vale and New Mills , continue to school and college on time.

High Peak MP Robert Largan welcomed the decision.

He said, “This service is very important to college students across the High Peak who use it daily to travel to Stockport or Aquinas colleges.

“Eliminating this morning service would have meant students paying more to access their education and trains through Stockport would be overcrowded.”

He stated that he will continue to press for the service to be fully restored at 7:59 a.m. as soon as possible.

“I am delighted that Northern has recognized the need for these stops and reintroduced them on weekdays until further notice,” said Whaley Bridge District Councilor Ruth George, who had also campaigned for the rail operators.
