Coronation Street and Hollyoaks star Will Mellor leads the campaign to get Stockport business moving again

Actor Will Mellor, known for his roles on Coronation Street and Hollyoaks, is leading a campaign to get Stockport businesses back on their feet when they recover from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr. Mellor, who also starred in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, appears in the movie It’s Time to Get, which also features local retailers.

The campaign was launched by One Stockport to promote and showcase local businesses and encourage people to shop, meet and think locally.

Mr Mellor said: “Like cities across the UK, the pandemic has been harsh for all of us.

“But it hits the smaller independent companies particularly hard. That is why we have to think ‘locally’ in everything we do.

“Whether we’re shopping, going out, or meeting friends, let’s stay local and shop local and get the district’s business going again.”

Steve Oliver, Chairman of the Stockport Economic Alliance, added, “By supporting local businesses, we can help rebuild our local economies; by building on resilience and support, we will all become better connected; and by building trust and staying strong, we can all work together to ensure a successful recovery.

“We all have a role to play because together we are stronger, together we are One Stockport.”

Cllr David Meller, Cabinet Secretary for Business and Regeneration, Stockport Council, said, “This campaign highlights some of our fantastic independent companies across the county that really deserve our support after 18 months of hardship.

“By buying locally, you not only strengthen the local economy, but you also have a positive impact on the environment.

“If more people choose to shop locally and get to their destination on foot or by bike, it would go a long way in reducing air pollution and traffic. So you not only support local companies, but also reduce your carbon footprint.

“Let’s all stand behind our wonderful stores right on our doorstep in Stockport and show our support.”

The film can be seen on YouTube.
