New stretch target
If we were to receive extra money from this campaign, we would be able to extend the offer of a warm and welcoming space to our local community beyond March 2023.
Walthew House provides a wide range of services and activities for people in Stockport living with sight or hearing loss. Our local charity has been providing emotional and practical support to people with sensory loss for more than 140 years, and receives no statutory income. The majority of our services are volunteer-led.
Many of the people who regularly enjoy the services at our center in Shaw Heath are aged 70+. The building is a warm, safe, and welcoming space.
As well as providing accessible, tailored support for people with sensory loss, our center is also regularly used by the wider community. Groups who attend include a local church congregation, WI group, Stockport Radio Society, and the Stockport Talking Newspaper.
We have also opened our building up as a designated Warm Space for the residents of Stockport, providing a warm space to sit and a free hot drink.
Ensuring we keep our building warm and inviting means that our local community can continue to use the facilities.
We need to raise money to help our charity through the cold winter months and to offset the rising costs of energy prices and the impact of the current cost-of-living crisis.
We are hoping the crowdfunding campaign will reach a new online audience so that we target harder to reach groups in the local community who have a sensory loss and are in need of support.
The money raised would allow us to provide hot drinks free of charge through the cold winter months (including the costs of hot water, tea, coffee, sugar, and milk).
It would go towards the cost of keeping the Walthew House building warm, ensuring the center is a comfortable environment for all users, and that there are no issues with access to heating/hot water.
