Stockport Council continues the roll out of its Open+ self service library service, which makes libraries more accessible to residents at a time convenient to them
Open+ self service technology is now available at 12 libraries across the borough:
- Bramhall Library
- Bredbury Library
- Cheadle Library
- Cheadle Hulme Library
- Edgeley Library
- Great Moor Library
- Hazel Grove Library
- Heald Green Library
- Heaton’s Library
- High Lane Library
- Marble Library
- Reddish Library
In addition, Brinington library will soon become Open+, with building work being carried out to implement the technology from Monday 28th November – Monday 19th December. Please note that the library will be closed during this period, although the café at First House will remain open as a warm space for residents to enjoy.
Open+ allows you to use libraries for longer, outside of normal staffed hours. Customers simply scan their card, enter their PIN and access the library building. From here you can borrow and return books, pick up reservations, use the PCs or public WIFI on your own devices and relax in a warm space.
You’ll find the libraries well-lit and monitored by CCTV, to ensure the safety of all customers. After registration you will receive a full induction to using Open+ in the Library, including the location of emergency exits. We also provide an emergency phone, with emergency contact numbers and during the induction customers are shown the location of the phone and board.
To sign up for Open+, simply visit one of the libraries listed above during staffed hours and bring proof of identity and proof of address. Please note you must be 16+ to sign up to use Open+.
Councilor Grace Baynham, Cabinet Member for Highways, Parks and Leisure Services at Stockport Council, commented: “The installation of Open+ at more of our libraries across the borough is part of our drive to become a radically digital borough, under the One Stockport Borough Plan . The technology allows residents to access the library later in the evening, and at the weekend, meaning more opportunities for Stockport people to engage with services and enjoy the benefits of their local library in a warm and safe environment.”
“I’m proud that the roll out of Open+ has continued, and we are ambitious to have it in every library in the borough, to help all our residents get the most out of their library services.”
