A man who was once branded Stockport’s most successful businessman has acquired a controlling stake in a football academy.
Real estate entrepreneur Mark Stott, who is also the founder of Cheshire firms Vita Group and Select Property Group, has taken over Pro Football Academy for an undisclosed amount.
The company, which serves soccer players ages four to 16, owns Stockport Town, a semi-professional club that competes in the North West Counties League.
Mr. Stott already owns Stockport County, which competes in the National League.
Carlos Roca, a former English midfielder who played for Oldham Athletic, will remain Executive Director of the Pro Football Academy.

A statement from Stockport Town said: “The acquisition supports Mark’s passion to create opportunities for everyone, to get more out of football and to create pathways for young football talent in Stockport and the wider region.
“The FA, EFL and the North West Counties League have approved the transaction under terms that will ensure Stockport Town will operate independently from Stockport County.
