Stockport Stand Up to Racism group marks the first anniversary of George Floyd’s death

The local group “Stand-Up to Racism” is said to mark the first anniversary of the murder of George Floyd.

Stockport Stand Up to Racism (SUTR) is planning the year-long anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, the black man who was murdered by a police officer in Minneapolis on May 25th.

To mark the occasion, the group that organizes anti-racism events in Stockport, Greater Manchester, says they were unable to organize a Stockport-specific event due to Covid.

Instead, they encourage the public to attend the Greater Manchester event in St. Peter’s Square at 6 p.m.

The St. Peter’s Square event will be socially distant and include speakers representing frontline unions, followed by a name reading and a kneeling tribute.

There will also be a “social media storm” between 6pm and 7pm and more information can be found on the SUTR Facebook page.

Speaking on behalf of Stockport SUTR, John and Sue said, “Exactly 12 months ago, on April 25th.

“We have witnessed the largest multiracial movement against the scourge of racism and inequality the world has ever seen.

“The police hangman was not only charged, tried and found guilty of callous murder, but the demand for equal human rights for all, regardless of skin color or class, echoed around the world.”
