Three takeaways in Greater Manchester were voted the best in the UK – and Stockport dominated

Three takeaways in Greater Manchester were announced finalists in the British Takeaway Awards, with our region dominating in the Northwest category.

Thousands of takeaways across the country have been reduced to just five independent businesses in each of the 12 regional categories.

In the Northwest category, three Stockport food companies were named fan favorites following a public vote, along with takeaways in Liverpool and Warrington.

The awards ceremony itself will take place in September, with a prize of £ 1,000 for each regional winner and £ 5,000 for the company named the UK’s best takeaway.

Emmerdale star Adam Thomas made it to the finals with his Gatley restaurant The Spinn, famous for its wraps and burgers.

He made headlines late last year when he mocked the government with a three-tier “Boris Burger” and paid for it to be advertised on giant billboards.

Also in the finals for the northwest is LAPD Food, a delivery place that sells burgers, pizza and fried chicken.

It also made headlines when it launched because an American-style police vehicle was used to deliver its food.

The Bun and Bones Club in Hazel Grove completes the trifecta of Stockport food stalls in the finals.

Specializing in burgers and wings, the menu includes the Hans Seoul-o (fried chicken breast with buttermilk, hot Korean sauce, Asian mayo and homemade kimchi) and the ‘Mancake’ (beef patties, American cheese, smoked bacon and maple syrup on two fluffy American Pancakes).

Just Wings in Liverpool and The Burger Joint in Warrington will also fight for the overall regional title later this year.

Andrew Kenny, Managing Director of Just Eat, commented: “We are very excited to be part of the British Takeaway Awards for the sixth consecutive year.

“Every year we are surprised by the standard of submissions, and this year is no different, with a huge selection of restaurants competing for the awards, from family-run takeaways to small chains.

“Celebrating the amazing local food stalls across the UK is especially important this year after many reached out to their local restaurants for ridesharing during the lockdowns.

“The UK has decided to give something back to its local heroes to take away and we can’t wait to honor the winners at the awards ceremony in September.”
