The museums in the district are preparing to welcome visitors back as soon as the Covid rules allow next week.
Starting Wednesday May 19, museums in Stockport, Greater Manchester can welcome visitors back from lockdown as part of the next phase of the government’s roadmap.
Bramall Hall, Stockport Air Raid Shelters, and Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery will be the first to open their doors, allowing visitors to learn more about the district’s fascinating history through their collections, buildings, and exhibits.
The Stockport Museum and the stairwell are expected to reopen in the summer of 2021. A specific date has yet to be confirmed while the Hat Works Museum remains closed for renovations.

Peter Ashworth, Director of Culture and Leisure, Stockport Council, said: “We are delighted to see people return to our unique and wonderful places – we have missed visitors so much.
“All of our teams have worked hard to make sure the museums have a safe environment so everyone can have a comfortable and enjoyable visit.
“There are so many fascinating collections to discover that describe Stockport’s rich history. Come by and find out something new about where you live. “
Precautions have been taken to ensure that the museums can be opened.
Visitors must purchase a timed ticket online prior to their visit. This cannot be guaranteed without a ticket admission booked in advance.
Other security measures are in place, including reduced capacity operation, a single-use system, hand sanitizing stations and face masks that must always be worn in museums.
Opening times are as follows:
- From May 19th – Bramall Hall – Open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.
- Starting May 20 – Stockport Air Raid Shelters and Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery – Open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
