It’s been an extraordinarily difficult 12 months for everyone – not least for our shops in the city center.
But Stockport wants to jump into the post-pandemic era with the help of 21 giant colorful frogs.
Yes, lockdown may drive a lot of us crazy, but you read that right.
The city first welcomed the amphibious attractions two years ago.
People still fondly remember the likes of ‘Strawberry Frog’ who proudly guard the NatWest Bank on Great Underbank and golden ‘Midas’ in Peel Center.

The Giant Leap Frog Art Trail, organized by Stockport’s Business Improvement District (BID) and referred to as Totally Stockport, drew thousands of visitors, residents and family members to the downtown area.
Children of all ages had great fun looking for all 19 giant frogs – three visiting frogs were added later.
Now the psychedelic specimens are coming back – but as Stockport tries to rebuild better, there will be more of them.

This summer’s Gigantic Leap Frog Art Trail, 21 brand new, gigantic frogs are hopping downtown.
At the event, frogs will also jump to locations throughout the neighborhood.
Paul Taylor, Stockport BID Manager, is delighted that the frogs are on display again in the heart of the city.
“To say it was a difficult 12 months for everyone is the understatement of the decade,” he said.

“After working so hard over the past four years to promote all of the big changes that are happening here and to encourage more people to visit the city center more often, it has been heartbreaking to see so many companies during the Lockdown had to be closed and the center was as good as deserted.
“But it’s time to start planning the reopening of the city center and what better way to go than with another brilliant way that is even bigger and better than before!”
Companies have the opportunity to get involved and sponsor a frog. This time the entire proceeds will be donated to St. Ann’s Hospice.
In 2019, the walk increased downtown visitor numbers by nearly 20 percentage points in the summer, while auctioning frogs raised more than £ 30,000 for the treehouse children’s ward at Stepping Hill Hospital.

Councilor David Meller – Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration – has also welcomed the return of the frogs.
He said, “I am very happy that the frogs will be jumping back to Stockport! You surely got everyone talking the last time they were here with people from all over Greater Manchester.
“The fact that they will be showing up all over the neighborhood so more people can enjoy them is even better and will hopefully lead to people hopping around the neighborhood to try everything we have to offer.”
This year’s trail runs from the beginning of July to the end of September.
Further details will be announced shortly.
